Medicine Bakery – I tried a cronut!

I finally had the chance to relax and enjoy my Saturday this weekend. And as the roadmap to lockdown easing has begun, I am finally allowed to go for a walk with one person outside my household for a drink and sit down in the park! So I met up with my friend Alice from work to catch up for a walk along the canal and of course, we visited a bakery on the way!

Medicine bakery is such a cute place that sells fresh bread, cakes, pastries, plus a range of takeaway sandwiches & coffees. I’ve heard many many good things about the place from my friends about this place so I was keen to visit here to try their face pastries and their cronut!

We walked up from Jewellery Quarter and got to the bakery just before midday and of course, there was a queue! But, it moved quite quickly and we did not have to wait so long to get to the front. Also, there were plenty of pastries left (as you can see from the pictures)!

This is what the stall looks like – because I haven’t been before I am unsure whether this is what it is normally like but I thought the set-up was quite cute!

So if you go to Medicine Bakery online, you can see their amazing selection of pastries selection and drinks menu. I really wanted to try their cronut (call me basic I know but I’ve never tried it before!) and fancied matcha latte.

Selection of cronuts and donuts!

The selection for cronuts (£4 each) were: Strawberry & Elderflower cheesecake, Salted Caramel and Creme Brûlée. I went for Strawberry cheesecake one and Alice went for salted caramel. They were so tasty. I think I actually prefer cronuts compared to regular donuts because the pastry just feels so light and fluffy. I also fancied their breakfast sandwich (£6.50) which had halloumi, avocado, tomato and chilli jam – again highly recommend this. The sandwich bread was more like brioche buns and it was soft and delicious. Drinkwise, unfortunately, they did not have any matcha latte so I opted for chai tea latte (£3.50) which was lovely too.

We actually saved our food and drink until we could find a nice bench by the canal but in hindsight, we probably should have eaten it in the city centre by Floozie fountain because what was a lovely bright canal walk, it started chucking it down with rain! Such a temperamental weather day today. Hailstones and rain at one minute and bright sunshine next. But very very windy so I’ve made a note to myself for next time, to bring my flask to keep my tea warm rather than get a takeout paper cup. Overall, I probably should not have worn just a woolly cardigan and something waterproof (oh well) but after my 15,000 steps (a solid walk), my clothes dried off fine.

So all in all, a successful Saturday well spent and I will definitely be coming back here to try more pastries. Next time, I think I’ll try their cruffin and pain au chocolat and get Kieran to get cruffin so I can try everything. I know they have another branch in Mailbox so maybe I’ll pop over there on my next canal walk x
